Om Puri "missing" after wife assault charge
Veteran Bollywood actor Om Puri, who allegedly assaulted his wife Nandita Puri, has gone missing for days to escape arrest by Mumbai Police, reports said on Tuesday, even though the famous international actor was in Kolkata for a cancer fund raiser in full public view and media glare on Saturday.
Nandita Puri has reportedly filed a case against him at Versova Police Station in Mumbai, alleging domestic violence.
The complaint was filed against the Padma Shri recipient on Aug 23.
But when the police reached Puri's residence to arrest him, he was found missing.
Interestingly, Om Puri was present in Kolkata at a cancer fundraiser function on Saturday evening along with other Bollywood senior actresses like Shabana Azmi, Sharmila Tagore and Waheeda Rehman.
An investigation officer told media that the police went to the actor's house to arrest him on Friday, but he was not there.
The police is now tracing the actor through his cellphone, he added.
The 62-year-old actor has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
